Silk is a natural fibre that results in a simply beautiful fabric. Silk is light and airy, whilst being the strongest natural fibre known to man. The discovery of silk is attributed to the Chinese Empress Xi Ling-Shi who is said to have acquired groves of mulberry trees to domesticate the Bombyx mori silkworms that produce the fibre.

China developed silk by 3000 B.C., possibly even earlier. The liquid texture and lustre of silk was prized immediately and was for many centuries reserved only the wealthiest.

Silk Scarve History

The silk scarf is thought to have originated in the military scarves worn by high ranking officers of the Chinese army in previous dynasties.

Military scarves were mostly cotton, and used colour and pattern to easily identify a soldier's rank and allegiance. Only the high-status officers were issued pure silk scarves, a highly valued commodity.These scarves spread and were worn by Croatian mercenaries for the same easy identification of individuals. These scarves were imitated by the fashion-conscious French and eventually became the silk scarf that we know today.
