Wool ScarvesWoolWool is used in clothing for its warmth and sheer versatility. Wool has crimped fibres with lots of tiny kinks in each individual fibre, causing the fibres to cling to each other. This makes for easy spinning into yarn and results in a variety of woollen fabrics. Wool's crimped natural fibres have a light bulk that traps air, creating highly effective insulation and great protection against the cold. The insulating properties of wool can even be used to keep cool; many desert peoples use thin wool garments to keep out the heat of the midday sun. Wool comes in a wide range of textures and types, some of which are considered fabrics in their own right. Merino wool is spun exclusively from one species of Spanish merino sheep considered to produce the softest and finest wool of any sheep. Merino wool fibres are highly crimped and make an ultra fine fabric. Whether knitting, crocheting or simply buying clothes; merino is used to describe only the softest fabric.
Cashmere WoolCashmere is named after the Kashmiri region bordering India and Pakistan, although cashmere wool is now produced in a number of different countries. Cashmere wool is spun from the fleece of the cashmere goat, Capra hircus Laniger. The fleece is known for its unrivalled softness and can be spun in a variety of yarns and fibres. Cashmere is said to give the highest insulation with the least bulk, making it perfect for light shawls and cashmere scarves that are cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The famous pashmina shawl is created from a specific variety of cashmere goat and is prized for its unique warmth and light weight. For this reason it has been prized for thousands of years by Himalayan and Nepalese peoples to protect from harsh winters and life at high altitudes. Cashmere is often blended with merino wool to produce 'cashmerino' yarn, which combines the softness of merino with the warmth of cashmere for truly luxurious garments. The wool used in our scarves is selected not only for its warmth and texture, but for its suitability for an individual wool scarf. We use pure pashmina and silk blends for pashmina scarves that envelop you in softness; fluffy merino wool scarves keep you cosy in the winter and we use cashmere for feather-light scarves for wearing all year round. Our extensive collection gives you the power to choose just the right woollen scarf for any occasion.
